Pupils at St George’s School have been exploring the people who have helped shape Blackpool’s community as part of a creative project for Black History Month.
Inspired by this year’s theme, ‘Honouring our Communities’, pupils were challenged to research an individual from the past who has made an impact on Blackpool and find their own creative way to tell their story.
The result was a fantastic variety of work, from posters and poetry to carefully created models, each demonstrating the pupils’ research, imagination and different interpretations of the people and stories they discovered.
The number and quality of entries made choosing the winners no easy task.
Miss Hughes from St George’s said: “I was blown away by the wonderful standard of all the contributions this year. The entries were outstanding and everyone who entered should be proud of themselves. Thank you!”
The winning and highly commended entries have been put on display at Blackpool Central Library, giving the wider community an opportunity to see and celebrate the pupils’ work.
We’re also delighted to share a selection of the entries here, bringing the exhibition online and showcasing some of the brilliant work created by St George’s pupils.
