Notice! Poster design from early 1900 to present day.
Join us for a talk by Justin Burns as he explores more about seaside poster design and how significant it has been in evolving the English seaside resort. The railways transported day trippers to the coast and visitors flocked to resorts such as Blackpool, Brighton and Margate. Seaside Posters helped to picture the scene and enticed the holiday maker to the promised sunshine, sea and sand.
Justin will also explore the value of the poster from the early 1900s onwards, in identifying and promoting the seaside. He will also look at the impact of UK and international design on the promotion of trips to the coast.
We look forward to seeing you there!
No need to book – just come along.
Justin Burns is Head of School of Arts at the University of Derby. He is also researching Lettering and Typography at the English Seaside, as of part of a PhD at the University of Reading.
