Pair your school visit to Showtown with a workshop and dive deeper into Blackpool’s vibrant history.

Our fun and engaging workshops will offer:

  • A cross-curricular introduction to Blackpool’s history
  • A memorable out of classroom learning experience

Our sessions are hands-on and exciting - we're sure you'll enjoy them just as much as the rest of the class!

You can add a workshop onto your visit for just £4 per pupil (Blackpool school) or £6 per pupil (non-Blackpool school).

Seaside Fun

Best suited for: Early Years Foundation Stage
40 minutes

Overview: What makes a great day at the seaside?

Meet a sleepy Blackpool tourist as they tell you all about their perfect day at the beach. Learn about all the things they’ve seen, done and even tasted as we look back over Blackpool’s history as one of the nation’s favourite seaside resorts.

Learn about souvenirs and how we shared stories and memories from our holidays in the past by creating your own postcard and join in singing about your time by the sea.

Beside the Seaside

Best suited for: KS1 and KS2
2 hours including time to explore the museum

Overview: Meet a 1950s Walkies photographer who will help the class explore Blackpool’s history. Learn how Blackpool became a popular seaside resort from the Victorian era and discover more about a day at the seaside through the years.

Curriculum Links: Geography, History and depending on activities chosen: Science, Maths, English, Design and Citizenship

Sensory Seaside

Best suited for: Special Educational Needs (KS1 & KS2)
40 minutes plus time to explore Showtown

Overview: Immerse yourself in the seaside with our sensory seaside workshop.

A day at the seaside is perfect for relaxing and taking everything in. What can you see, smell, touch, taste and hear when you visit the seaside? Use your senses to explore a day by the sea and have fun singing along to our favourite seaside tune.

This activity will be tailored and adapted to the needs of the class.

Selling the Seaside

Best suited for: KS3
Duration: 50 minute activity plus time to explore Showtown

Overview: Come and visit England’s favourite playground for glowing health and dazzling lights!

Discover how Blackpool’s entertainment attractions have helped keep landladies in business for over 100 years. The class will then be tasked with keeping Blackpool’s entertainment industry alive by creating a brand new attraction for the town.
