Help unlock the Charlie Cairoli Collection

Love to laugh? Curious about circus and comedy? Come and be part of a new group at Showtown.

We’re inviting people from Blackpool to be part of a new and exciting co‑production group to create a new way to share our historic collections with the world.

Working alongside a professional comedian, you will help shape a short introduction to Charlie Cairoli, selecting the stories and images that help bring this history to life.

This opportunity is funded by Arts Council England.

What's it all about?

Together, between July and November 2026, we will:

  • Explore Charlie Cairoli and Blackpool's circus history
  • Share stories, memories and ideas
  • Learn more about creative storytelling
  • Get creative and bring these stories to life
  • Meet new people and try new things

No experience needed, just the curiosity to get involved and to be part of the story.

For this co-production group, we are looking for people with a connection to the Claremont community whether you live there, work here, spend time there, or simply feel part of the community.

Who is Charlie Cairoli?

  • A true legend of laughter and one of Europe’s most celebrated clown
  • Made Blackpool his stage at the Blackpool Tower Circus
  • Kept audiences laughing there for an incredible 39 years
  • Known for his playful mix of music, slapstick, silliness and larger‑than‑life comedy
  • Brought joy to generations of families with his charm and unforgettable stage presence

What is co-production?

At Showtown we want you to be part of the stories that we're telling.

Co-production means that we create things (exhibitions, talks, content) with people, not for them. It's about working together, sharing ideas and shaping something as a group. This means that everyone will have an equal voice in what we create and how we create it. It lets us learn, experiment and create something that reflects the communities that it belongs to.

So come along, have your voice heard and shout about Blackpool's amazing history.

Fancy it?
