Blackpool in 1876

1876 was a huge year for Blackpool. This was the year the town became an incorporated borough – a self-governing town, with its own council and mayor.

Join Showtown for the 150th anniversary as we explore what incorporation meant to Blackpool as the first council used its new powers to change the face of the rapidly growing resort.

We will also explore the big stories, sites and entertainments that hit the news to give you a flavour of what Blackpool was like in 1876 – the year the town was born.
